Destination Disney - Disney in Black

When I think BLACK and Disney... what comes to mind?

M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E

Who would have guessed it?  I'm thinking about Mickey Mouse?!  Never!  Err... always!  Getting the color black this week only gives me an excuse to talk about him too.  Well, him and Minnie and their lovely mousiness.  Is that a word?  *shrug*  Little (well, bigger than your average) black mice.  So, come along... join my jamboree... enjoy some photos of M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E.

And my favorite image of Mickey Mouse?  The one tattooed on my neck.  I designed it to include the initials of my husband and children.  *swoon*

Wasn't that fun?!  Why don't you join in on the discussion.

Last week, I was thinking about RED
Be sure to check back next week and find out what DISNEY thing the color YELLOW makes me think of.

Destination Disney - 4 Favorite Souvenirs

We all buy souvenirs in Disney World.  Some for others, some for ourselves.  I mean, who couldn't buy *something* for themselves with all those wonderful little shops scattered about?  Though I do like buying for others, and myself, the last few visits have been about what we can buy the kids... and how the heck we're going to fit it all in our suitcases!

Let's shop!

 4.  Magnets

This is something we buy for ourselves on every single trip we make to WDW.  It's our little "family" souvenir.  Something we can all see, daily, hanging right there on our fridge.  We like the clippy ones, as they're the most practical, but the only requirement.. they MUST be dated.  We've got a pretty good collection, though I'd never argue making it bigger!  Plus, they fit very nicely in said luggage.  ;)
3.  Ride Photos

We're suckers for the ride photos!  As soon as we see them, we can't walk away empty handed.  Leaving them behind is like leaving one of our precious Disney World memories behind.  The looks on the faces are always priceless.  Shock.  Surprise.  Excitement.  Like I said, precious Disney memories.  Another plus, sometimes the other riders expressions are even better than our own!

2.  Mickey Ears

Mine are oldies, from my first trip to The World back in 1987.  Hubby's are from our honeymoon in 1997.  The kids, before they even knew who Mickey was.  Yes, my kids first hats were those with ears, to no one's surprise.  All were bought in the parks and they all have our names on them.  Stephen's were even used on his 3rd birthday party invitations.

 1.  My Disney Bear

No, not Duffy, as he is known now.  Mine is just called a "Disney Bear".  Sure, it's Duffy, but I bought mine before he was called "Duffy".  He's soft, cuddly, adorable and PURPLE!  As soon as I saw him on that hot September day in 2003 (which was also my 30th birthday!), I had to have him!  His cute little Mickey feet, the adorable story behind him and, did I mention, he's PURPLE!  My absolute favorite Walt Disney World souvenir.  Ever.
And Make Room in the Suitcase for...

...pin trading!  We've never done it before but I've got a small collection going so that when we visit again this summer the kids and I can get started.  Problem is, I love them all!  I don't want to trade.  Think people will just give me theirs?  ;)

Destination Disney - 5 Favorite Snacks

Last week we discussed our favorite restaurants in Disney World, this week is all about those snacks we use to hold us over until we get to those fancy restaurants.  From the amusement park classic to special treats specific to The World, all are yummy and I couldn't think of a better way to "ruin" my dinner.

Let's eat!
 5.  Popcorn

I'm not sure why, but as soon I step foot into Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom, I need popcorn!  Those classic vendor carts just start screaming my name.  The delicious smell of buttery, salty goodness whisks me right off my feet. A small box would probably do, but I always break down and buy the big souvenir bucket.  Before the day's out, it's usually well polished off.  Mmmm...
4.  Cookies from Goofy's Candy Co.

Back in January of 2005, I visited Goofy's Candy Co. in Downtown Disney and fell in love... with a baked good.  Mine had chocolate and peanut butter chips, and I swear, some were little Mickey shaped chips.  I haven't seen those adorable chips since but I'm still loving those crispy delicious cookies.

3.  Mickey Ears Ice Cream Bar

One cannot visit Disney World without enjoying one of these bad boys!  A hot Orlando day + crispy coated vanilla ice cream shaped like our iconic Mickey = *sigh*.  Need I say more?

 2.  Blueberry Muffins

I'm pretty sure all the resorts have the same blueberry muffins, but I remember one particular one at Disney's All-Star Movies Resort.  I ate one every-single-morning.  Biggest, most delicious blueberry muffin I've ever eaten.

1.  Birthday Cupcakes

Nothing tastes sweeter than celebrating a birthday (or any other special occasion) at Walt Disney World!  Well, the special treats you get come in a close second.  They're touching and tasty all at the same time.  It's almost heartbreaking to eat that chocolate Mickey disk on top, but I did it.

Mickey Mouse Birthday

Stephen's 3rd birthday was a Mickey Mouse theme.  I adore The Mouse, I'm so happy my boy shares my love.

the invitation
This photo was taken especially for his invitation.  I knew those curls wouldn't last forever, had to get a photo for posterity.  <3

the cake

3-layer, 6" main cake.  Stars and letters are made from gum paste then textured with Wilton's Star Tip.

the food

Well, some of it.  The Mickey icon is pretty easy to duplicate, so I made some food items in it's image.

party favors

These take me straight to the parks!  I used a small snack bowl to cut out the treats.  I let them cool just a little then inserted the stick.  When they were completely cooled, I dipped the ends in chocolate.  *swoon*
