the invitation
Many thanks to Grealish Greetings for the tower SVG and inspiration for Sami's invitation. Maybe I should also thank you for my carpal tunnel. *wink* Those tiny braids nearly did me in.
the cake
The tower cake was made of a 9" round, 2 layer cake, topped with donuts, a muffin and ice cream cone. I got the inspiration for this cake from Dreaming of Stitches.
dessert table
The dessert table had an "art" theme, since Rapunzel loves to paint. Speaking of painting, how much do you love my background?! I painted that baby all by myself. *swoon* The curtains add to the inside-of-the-tower effect and there are lanterns across the ceiling as though they're coming off the painting. The food tags are sitting on popsicle stick easels. I used Ikea frame to add quotes from the movie to the table.
"Apple Cake Pops for Maximus" (inspiration: Fredellicious) and "Paint Brush Pretzel Rods" (inspiration: Peas & Thank You's)
"Magic Golden Flower Punch" (aka Golden Wedding Punch), "Paint Brush Rice Krispie Treats" (inspiration: Little Things Creations) and "Paint Palette Sugar Cookies" (inspiration: The Celebration Shoppe).
i *do* like ducklings
Welcome to the Snuggly Duckling, where you'll find the best (root) beer on tap. The sign is homemade. The movie quotes are in Ikea frames. The food... in frying pans, of course. Even the paper plates have been transformed into frying pans. The inspiration for these came from Me and My Insanity. And if you look close, you can see a pair of ceramic unicorns (*clink*). I purchased these from Etsy seller Nonconformity."Pretzel Ducklings" (inspiration: Stop Lookin' Get Cookin'), cheese & crackers, "PB & J Ducklings", "Braided Pizza Sandwiches" (inspiration: Squidoo), "Braided Ham & Cheese Sandwiches", strawberries, blueberries and grapes, root beer. I wanted to make hazelnut soup since it's Rapunzel's favorite but I knew a household of 4, 5 and 6 year olds so I put butterscotch pudding in little cups and sprinkled it with hazelnuts.
If you'd like to print my signs for yourselves, you can find them here. Frying Pans. Dream. My Birthday. Best Day.
stuff to do
Each child got a 4x4 canvas, which I put contact paper initials on. After they were finished painting, we removed the contact paper and their initials shown clearly. I got the inspiration for this from Oh Amanda.
Photo ops! Rapunzel's tower and Flynn Rider's wanted poster, with noses, since they can't ever get it right. Both photo ops were handmade.
favors
Pacal party blowers (instructions: Family.com). Watercolors with personalized liners. Hats for Princesses or Ruffians. The princess hats were inspired by Little Things Creations. The Ruffian hats are party hats from Hallmark's How to Train Your Dragon collection.
Got a couple extra minutes? I'd love for you to be one of my "100 people surveyed"!
Wow! What a party!! So many great details! Absolutely love the backdrop! Thanks for the shout out on the frying pan plates!
ReplyDeleteLove all the ideas!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you purchase the 4x4 canvas? I am having an art party for my daughter and these would be perfect!

Thanks Carole! I searched high and low for the canvas' then found some at Michael's. They ran out nearly as fast as I found them though and I'm not sure if they're something they carry on a regular basis. They were in a pack of 10 and cost $9.99. Good luck! I hope you can find them!
ReplyDeleteyour little printables like "i had a dream", can we print them? id love to use them at my girls party too! so cute!

Enjoy!
Where did you find the ruffian hats???
ReplyDeleteI believe I got the "ruffian" hats on Amazon. They're part of Hallmark's "How to Train Your Dragon" partyware.
ReplyDeleteI love this!!!! What great ideas that you either combined together or created yourself!!!!! You have totally inspired me =) One quick question - how did you make the paint can marshmallows? what is the colored stuff and how did you get it to stick?
ReplyDelete@Sara B, I dunked the tops of the marshmallows in confectioners sugar/milk icing then into colored sugar sprinkles. The type you use to decorate cookies. As the icing dripped down the sides, I added more sprinkles.
ReplyDeleteHi! I love the watercolor labels (favors). Where did you get the cute labels?
ReplyDeleteThanks! Kristin
Thanks @Kristin! I made them myself. I took the label out that came with them, measured it, and made my own in my photo editing program.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what font you used on your invitation?? I LOVE it, so girly and prettier than JUST a tower, ya know?? This is a great party, taking many notes. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks @Jennifer! For the invitation, I used the Lucida Handwriting font.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for responding!!
ReplyDeleteHi, where did you get your Flynn wanted poster image from?? really like that yours doesn't have dead or alive on it ;) TIA
ReplyDeleteI don't remember where I got the wanted poster, but luckily, I still have it! You can find it here... https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B3576WASOHK8YjFZRHJtcmY2UUk
ReplyDeletewould you like to share your tags? I am having my daughters 5th birthday party and would love to use your labels to label the food!
ReplyDeleteGreat party! I, too, would like to use your labels for my daughter's 5th birthday if you share them. Super cute!
ReplyDelete@Tammy & @Jenny, I wish I could! Sadly, I didn't save them. If I get some free time, I'll see what I can do about recreating them and then I'll add them to this page. Thanks for your interest!
ReplyDeleteI am stealing most of your ideas! I am so excited about planning my daughter's party. I just spent way too much money on the paper for my daughter's invitations. I found this awesome silver paper for the tower that looks like it has a stone texture.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask, what size you made the invitations? 5x5?
@Heather, I'm glad you're finding some great ideas for your celebration! My invitations were 6x6.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I ended up doing 5x5. It was a nightmare finding big enough envelopes!
ReplyDeleteI have more questions, because I'm absolutely obsessed with your party ;)
1) For the tower, did you use a refrigerator box, or is there a simpler solution?
2) How did you keep the tower on the cake. I saw bakerella's tutorial where the tower stands on foam, but I like that you used the cake as your base. Do you just insert a dowel into the cake?
3) Do you have a source for the palette cookie cutter?
Thanks so much!! I appreciate you taking time to respond.
Thanks @Heather!
ReplyDelete1)For the tower, I actually used corrugated display boards. Like these... http://www.staples.com/Staples-White-Corrugated-Display-Board/product_302919
2)Yep, a dowel! I used a wooden base that it was screwed into, set the cake right over it and added the donuts. I may have wrapped it in plastic wrap first... I can't remember. Seems like I would have though.
And 3)I used a large circle cutter and indented a side. After they baked, while still hot, I used a straw to make the hole.
Have fun!
AMAZING!!!! Thank you soOooo much! My (soon to be) 3 yo recently changed her party theme from Yo Gabba Gabba to Tangled and I was scrambling for ideas, but this has inspired me SOO much. Thank you for all of the great printables too! I can't wait to make all the yummy looking fun goodies you made too! :) :)
ReplyDeleteRebecca
Yay!! Enjoy!
DeleteLove this! Where did you find the mini easels?
ReplyDeleteThanks @lmcewan23! I bought the easels at Micheals.
ReplyDeleteLove all your great ideas!! We are having our "Tangled" party tomorrow :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great ideas! Can I ask what size cups you used for the jello boats?
ReplyDeleteThanks! The cups are 5oz plastic tumblers that I got at my local party supply store.
DeleteI was deployed overseas with the ARMY last year, so I missed my daughter's third birthday. She had a small celebratory dinner with my parents and my husband. Her birthday is in a week and a half and I am busy planning and prepping the best Tangled birthday party thanks to you! Your wonderful blog has truly been a blessing! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
ReplyDeleteAwww.. I hope she has a wonderful party! And thank YOU, for your service.
ReplyDeletecan you pass the site when you managed the Hallmark's How to Train Your Dragon collection?
ReplyDeleteI purchased them at Amazon.com but it looks like they're no longer available. You may be able to find them on eBay. Good luck!
Deletewere did you order the watercolor from?
ReplyDeleteWatercolor? Do you mean the favors? I purchased watercolor paints from Walmart, then added my own liner. The link for the liner is available above, right under the photo.
