Rapunzel Tangled Birthday Party

The hair.  The Mother.  The frog.  Err, chameleon.  What's not to love about Rapunzel?  For Sami's 4th birthday we got all Tangled up in fun!  Join us, won't you?

  Here's a small selection of the adorable birthday photos we got this year.  Isn't her dress just fantastic?!  It was made by Marsha at the Esty shop, Sissybugs Sewcrazy Boutique.  It's incredibly well made too, so she will be wearing for years, I'd bet!

Many thanks to Grealish Greetings for the tower SVG and inspiration for Sami's invitation.  Maybe I should also thank you for my carpal tunnel.  *wink*  Those tiny braids nearly did me in.

The tower cake was made of a 9" round, 2 layer cake, topped with donuts, a muffin and ice cream cone.  I got the inspiration for this cake from Dreaming of Stitches.

The dessert table had an "art" theme, since Rapunzel loves to paint.  Speaking of painting, how much do you love my background?!  I painted that baby all by myself.  *swoon*  The curtains add to the inside-of-the-tower effect and there are lanterns across the ceiling as though they're coming off the painting.  The food tags are sitting on popsicle stick easels.  I used Ikea frame to add quotes from the movie to the table.

"Jell-O Boats" (inspiration: SuperMom Moments), "Mini Pies" and "Marshmallow Pop Paint Cans".

Welcome to the Snuggly Duckling, where you'll find the best (root) beer on tap.  The sign is homemade.  The movie quotes are in Ikea frames.  The food... in frying pans, of course.  Even the paper plates have been transformed into frying pans.  The inspiration for these came from Me and My Insanity.  And if you look close, you can see a pair of ceramic unicorns (*clink*).  I purchased these from Etsy seller Nonconformity.


"Pretzel Ducklings" (inspiration: Stop Lookin' Get Cookin'), cheese & crackers, "PB & J Ducklings", "Braided Pizza Sandwiches" (inspiration: Squidoo), "Braided Ham & Cheese Sandwiches", strawberries, blueberries and grapes, root beer.  I wanted to make hazelnut soup since it's Rapunzel's favorite but I knew a household of 4, 5 and 6 year olds so I put butterscotch pudding in little cups and sprinkled it with hazelnuts.

Each child got a 4x4 canvas, which I put contact paper initials on.   After they were finished painting, we removed the contact paper and their initials shown clearly.  I got the inspiration for this from Oh Amanda.

Photo ops!  Rapunzel's tower and Flynn Rider's wanted poster, with noses, since they can't ever get it right.  Both photo ops were handmade.


 Inspired by Martha Stewart, this is a new take on the pinata.  Each child pops a balloon and candy, toys and confetti come out.  It was a HUGE hit!

favors

 Pacal party blowers (instructions: Family.com).  Watercolors with personalized liners.  Hats for Princesses or Ruffians.  The princess hats were inspired by Little Things Creations.  The Ruffian hats are party hats from Hallmark's How to Train Your Dragon collection.

    Thanks Carole! I searched high and low for the canvas' then found some at Michael's. They ran out nearly as fast as I found them though and I'm not sure if they're something they carry on a regular basis. They were in a pack of 10 and cost $9.99. Good luck! I hope you can find them!

    I love this!!!! What great ideas that you either combined together or created yourself!!!!! You have totally inspired me =) One quick question - how did you make the paint can marshmallows? what is the colored stuff and how did you get it to stick?

    @Sara B, I dunked the tops of the marshmallows in confectioners sugar/milk icing then into colored sugar sprinkles. The type you use to decorate cookies. As the icing dripped down the sides, I added more sprinkles.

    I am stealing most of your ideas! I am so excited about planning my daughter's party. I just spent way too much money on the paper for my daughter's invitations. I found this awesome silver paper for the tower that looks like it has a stone texture.

    Can I ask, what size you made the invitations? 5x5?

    Thanks! I ended up doing 5x5. It was a nightmare finding big enough envelopes!

    I have more questions, because I'm absolutely obsessed with your party ;)

    1) For the tower, did you use a refrigerator box, or is there a simpler solution?
    2) How did you keep the tower on the cake. I saw bakerella's tutorial where the tower stands on foam, but I like that you used the cake as your base. Do you just insert a dowel into the cake?
    3) Do you have a source for the palette cookie cutter?

    1)For the tower, I actually used corrugated display boards. Like these... http://www.staples.com/Staples-White-Corrugated-Display-Board/product_302919

    2)Yep, a dowel! I used a wooden base that it was screwed into, set the cake right over it and added the donuts. I may have wrapped it in plastic wrap first... I can't remember. Seems like I would have though.

    And 3)I used a large circle cutter and indented a side. After they baked, while still hot, I used a straw to make the hole.

    I was deployed overseas with the ARMY last year, so I missed my daughter's third birthday. She had a small celebratory dinner with my parents and my husband.       Watercolor? Do you mean the favors? I purchased watercolor paints from Walmart, then added my own liner. The link for the liner is available above, right under the photo.
