May the Fourth Be With You

I'm new to the whole awesomeness that is Star Wars.  I have my 6 year old to thank for that.  Just about anything can "become" a lightsaber and as he swings it about, he hums the iconic music.  It's pretty adorable to this Momma.  Sorry, cool.  In honor of May the Fourth (which now has a whole new meaning), I threw together a quick dinner to enjoy as we watched the first, err, the fourth, good grief, I can't even keep track... You know, the one with the trash compactor.  That's only in one of them, right?

Disney's Three Caballeros Movie Night

Our Walt Disney World trip is coming up about 2 months, so it's time to start movie nights!  Since Cinco de Mayo is in a couple days, I thought we'd start out with the Three Caballeros.  I've never seen it (I own the VHS, and yet have never watched it.  Yes, VHS.  Which means I've owned it for quite a while too).  The kids have seen it a bunch of times and they love it.

dinner time

For dinner we had mini beef tacos, chicken and cheese taquitos and a "Mexican Flag" of green peppers, cheese and watermelon strips and mock margaritas.  The paper fans over the table were made from scrapbooking paper.  You can find the instructions to make them yourself here.

movie snacks

After dinner we popped the movie in and enjoyed some snacks.

 Cookie "chips" and fruit dip "guacamole".  Sombrero sugar cookies.  Mexican Wedding Cookies.  Chips and salsa and Hot Tamales candies.

fun and games

While watching the movie, the kids colored some tails for our Pin-the-Tail-on-Burrito game.  (Burrito is a flying donkey from the movie, for those, like me, that hadn't seen the movie before.)

We had a great time!  Ole!!

Easter

an easter invitation

I found this adorable invitation online and did my best to recreate it.  The basket and eggs were cut on my Cricut.  The basket is made of 2 pieces, leaving a pocket in between for the invitation to slide into.  I then stuck some Easter grass on to complete the basket effect.

the kids table

The kids will love this table!  The adorable chick banner was inspired by Supermom.  My kids loved helping add the googly eyes. 

Each setting includes fun plastic dinnerware from Target, crayons and Disney touches found at DisneyFamily.com.  I've used the egg wrappers as place-egg holders.  The eggs are plastic, which I wrote each child's name on.  Not until right this moment did I think, it'd have been fun to put some little surprises inside those eggs!  The place mats are Mickey & Friends Easter activity pages.

The centerpiece on the kids table is a wooden basked I purchased at Michaels.  In one side you'll find "bunny tales" (donut holes) for the kids to snack on.  In the other are bunny tales for the kids to wear.  I got this great idea over on the HWTM blog.

Alouette garlic & herb spreadable cheese with crackers, cucumber & dill stuffed tomatoes, crescent veggie pizza, veggies with ranch dressing and my Mom's deviled eggs.

Birds nests, Easter bark (instead of the jelly beans called for in the recipe, I used Toll House Mini Toppers), rainbow cookies, fruit pizza, mini cheesecakes.

Valentine's Day

Here are some do-it-yourself Valentine's your kiddoes can take to school.

the force is strong with you, valentine

Make these great Star Wars Valentines with glow bracelet "light sabers".

Print the Valentines on photo paper (for best quality) or white cardstock.  You can print them from here: Star Wars Valentines.  Once dry, cut the Valentines out.  Using an Exacto knife, cut 1" slits above the hands where the "light sabers" will go.  The slit has to be large so the glow bracelet slides in without bending.  Put a connector on the end of each glow bracelet, then slide them carefully into the slits from behind the Valentine.  Place a piece of tape on the back holding the glow bracelet in place.

These adorable Valentines are availble for printing from Skip To My Lou.  While printing, add goggle eye to the lollipops.  Once the Valentine's are printed, cut out and add 2 slits to slide the lollipop through.  You can then decorate the butterfly, we added heart shaped stickers to ours.  Once finished, add the pop and bend the wings upwards.

Print our Valentines from here: Chocolate Car Valentines (or make up some of your own) on pink and red cardstock, making sure to leave room for the tire tracks.  For our tracks, I found the Hot Wheel with the chunkiest tires my son had.  We put a little black paint on a paper plate and ran the tires through it.  Practice on a plain peice of paper, or even the edge of  your paper plate so you see how much paint you need to make just the right tracks.  Once the paint dries, attach your chocolate foil cars.  We used glue dots.

you and lollipops

Take a photo of your child, pretending to hold a giant lollipop.  Using the photo, make a 4"x6" card with a Valentine's greeting.  Once the cards are printed and dried, use and exacto knife to cut slits in the top and bottom of your childs hand and slide the stick of the lollipop through them.

Bakerella's Spring Chickens
